Hi guys!
Great to see our picture on your site, and we really are planning to start our own crossfitgym in the netherlands. To be there with all of you made us really enthousiastic! But first there s a lot of learning to do for me! That s why i wanted to ask if anybody knows a place to stay for me in nyc. I really want to do the elements class for a month. I already wrote a message last week, but maybe not everyone read it....Its to expensive to stay in a hotel for a month, so maybe there s a cheaper sollution for me. My email address is chantalsuve@hotmail.com Thanks a lot, and i hope to see you soon

Juan, you better not be sarcastic, cuz Smartbells are used by the same people that train Navy Seals, as shown here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igp7V8epX_o&feature=related
And since he has trained elite covert operators, that makes SmartBells "teh de4dly."
Chantal, I would look on craigslist for a furnished one month sublet: http://newyork.craigslist.org/sub/
If you want convenient, Manhattan would be best. If you want affordable, probably check out Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, or North Jersey. I don't know anyone who needs a sub or a roommate this summer, but will keep you in mind if I hear anything.

seal trainer? ...at Seaworld perhaps.
chantal
North Jersey hotels are way cheaper and bus terminals in the city are a few blocks from the box.

I had to fill in and teach some yoga classes with smartbells when I worked at Crunch. LAME!
teh de4dly indeed.

i think i'd probably hurt my neck with all that neck jiggling.
p.s. Walking on crutches with 2 broken fingers...still easier than ring dips.

i taught "smartbells" at crunch. That was the biggest waste of 45 minutes ever.

Despite Tyler's misgivings, I'm sure we could think of some WOD to do with this

nancy-on the streets
too many people eating lunch outside in this city! go inside and skip a meal and trim down!
28:00 used 52lb first round then 47 rounds 2-5
last minute or so was spent dropping and cleaning and trying to get the last overhead squat. 3x. very elegant.
took over three minutes longer this time but last time weight was easier at 41 lbs and I blew through the squats. Need to work overhead squats.
Thanks Allison.

"True" 400m run. That's right - I'm starting the crusade to get people to run to the mailbox that is past Havana (has white spraypaint on it.) Workout sez 400 meters and that be what 400 meters be.
Thanks to Allison for staying on me to stay tight.

Would figure there'd be speedwork in the first WOD I was planning to do! Can't add that back in until this weekend...Hope to see you kids at the box tomorrow!

i abused myself today with a modified nancy. I ran a mile first, then did 65# ohs 3 sets of 10. Then i did 20, 75# cleans and jerks from the floor. I had to clean everything because there are no racks at rbp. I then did heavy singles c&j. Got to 95# before i got nervous about dumping.

100 OHS for time
Used the mens weight because I can
25:08
Broke it up into sets of 10. Didn't need to rest as much but I was talking to people as they came in for class. I think I can cut that time in half.
The squat is easy. Every time I had to dump it was because of my wrists.
By the last 4 sets I adjusted my grip to a more narrow one and felt a lot less pressure on them. I also warmed up and got faster.

Nancy (with true 400m run)
with 65lbs because I never did an ohs with anything other than 45lb before!

Nancy 19:35
true 400m run and 32# OHS (could have gone heavier but it started hurting my wrist)
Brett-hope you get better quickly, and i'm glad your ok (sounds like it could have been a lot worse!)
Posted by: erica at April 16, 2008 9:19 PM
Nancy- True 400, 75# bar, 21:24.
Brett- Feel better, enjoy any and all drugs you might be taking and get back soon. I am sure your one handed OHS is still more weight than my two handed.
I particularly enjoyed watching the super/cleaning guy remove the door stop when he realized we were using it to avoid having to be buzzed in. When is the gym moving???
Posted by: Kurt at April 16, 2008 9:26 PM
A2 why the 100 ohs instead of Nancy?

Apparently I need to do more OHSs. They are what killed my time. The running was pretty easy.
Posted by: Kevin W at April 16, 2008 10:23 PM
17:05 subbed 500 meter row one, to see how much different it would be and two, because I hate the people on the street and if one more person blows cigarette smoke on me when I run, I'm going to go all Hulk Smash!!! on them. Next time I will do the run (hopefully at new place) and will up the weight to 115lbs because the 95 # OHS were a bit too easy.
Posted by: Justin at April 16, 2008 10:33 PM
Michelle: A few reasons.
1. I had about 20 minutes before I had to start teaching a class. I was able to have everyone set up while I finished my workout. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I was outside running.
2. I've done Nancy and never done 100 OHS for time.
3. Volume and weight of the OHS in one wod vs the other.. It was more about working the skill for me.
4. Even if I wanted to run I wasn't wearing the proper workout attire.
Posted by: AllisonNYC at April 16, 2008 10:33 PM
oh i was thinking there was some metabolic reason that i needed to be let in on! i suck so bad at both running and overhead squats that i guess it was good for me to practice both. but running on the street at lunch hour is absolutely ridiculous.
i have no idea how u did it with 95lbs. i had 52 lbs on and could barely keep my balance. guess i need to practice!
Posted by: michelle at April 16, 2008 10:37 PM
100 OHS will be good practice for you. Load up a bar and get at it girl!

I hate the people on the street too. Running through those people is what makes these fun runs for me.

Slower then I would have liked but I put my best foot forward and avoided dropping the weight on my head. Both positives in my mind.
What I hate most about running in the street is when I go for a big breath and get a mouthful of cigarette smoke. Not fun.

Uh, I know these things can be inadvertent, and sometimes we forget, but one always wants to give people for their words when writing blog entries, even if they are just inspirational tidbits.
