Ahh, Fran. And here I thought I was going to be alone on Valentines Day. Let the feeling of Dread for this workout begin.

Aw my dear sweet Fran, such a Valentine's treat... Im coming for you sub 6:00 mins. The pit in my stomach just hit!

A guy just asked me if I have a hot date for tomorrow...
I said- Yes. Her name is Fran.
He was confused. If he was a CrossFit man he would have known what I was talking about. He failed the test.
I'm considering giving him another shot since he's CrossFit capable. Maybe I should make him promise to do a CrossFit workout at the Box. If he beats me he can have a second date.
Happy Valentines Day <3

AllisonNYC - Give the guy a break. Telling him you've got a date with a girl who weighs 95 pounds with measurements of 21-15-9 would be confusing to most people.

I love Fran. I feel like it's like Christmas tomorrow. I'm going to try and hit the lunch class.
Thanks Hari. I'm not really sure where that effort came from.

Damn. If I make it, I'm not buying this B#$%% any chocolate.

hey tech-savvy CFers, if someone could take the iconic "I [heart] NY" logo and change it to say "I [heart] CFNYC" in that special font they use, I will post it in honor of Valentine's Day. I tried to do it myself but I am not so talented with these things...Email it to me at allison AT crossfitnyc DOT com. Thanks.

Who has been to CrossFit Las Vegas?
Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 14, 2008 1:03 PM
I've been there and so has Tyler. Joe Marsh is a cool guy.
Posted by: Jeff at February 14, 2008 1:21 PM
Are there regular classes? I'll be out there Thursday and Friday to see O. Figured I'd stop in if there are afternoon classes instead of using the globostyle gym at the Wynn.
Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 14, 2008 1:28 PM
Last night, after doing Randy, Brendan did 100 burpees while Dan Def and Wes did Randy. Not to show those guys up or anything, only because he did not feel that he "left it all out on the field".
That's personal dedication and mental maintenance. Why take it home with you? Leave it at the Box.

There's a schedule at www.cflasvegas.com. Looks like you can go on Thursday night.
What will you be doing in Vegas, where are you staying and how are you planning on getting around?
Posted by: Jeff at February 14, 2008 1:59 PM
O is amazing. U r flying to Vegas JUST to see the show??? Are you staying at the Bellagio? Even if not u shoul try to eat at Circo before the show. though its heavy on the carbs...

fran sucks. 6:33 with a 65 pound bar. first time doing it. you guys should make "get your hands on the bar" shirts. i'd buy one.
Posted by: greg at February 14, 2008 2:37 PM
Yeah pretty much just to see O. The trip to see the show is a Vday gift. I'm sure we'll do other stuff while we're there. I'm not a huge fan of Vegas. Last time I was there I barely left my room except to go shopping and I almost bought a 550$ fanny pack. I called it an early night after that. But everyone says great things about O. I saw ZooManity and LOVED it.
I'm staying in a suite at the Wynn Thursday and Friday night coming back saturday morning.
I don't think I'm going to be able to do a 730pm class. I was hoping they had afternoon classes too. I've been to vegas a few times over the last few months but never made it to the CrossFit. I feel guilty.
I love carbs and plan on going way off the Zone. Even more than I am now... cake and everything. What kind of food is at Circo?
I don't like to gamble (unless it's with someone elses money) but I've had pretty good luck in Vegas. I hit my first deadlift PR at the hard rock at 185 in october. Maybe I'll get to 240 at the Wynn.
Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 14, 2008 2:43 PM
You can always have people take bets on your deadlift like your old push up contests (you don't still do that, do you?).
Posted by: Jeff at February 14, 2008 3:11 PM
haha. ahh the good old days. I haven't done that in a long time. I actually feel a little guilty taking that money since those push-ups weren't full ROM. I didn't know any better back then.
But I won't feel any guilt taking money for pulling 240 :) Good thinking Jeff. I'll see what I can do but something tells me most of the people working out in hotel gyms won't even know what a Deadlift is. I'll probably spend a few hours just talking about CrossFit and teaching people some lifts..

Thanks to Juan, Steven, and (female) Sam for designing I [heart] CFNYC variants. I posted them up on my flickr. Just click on the one above to see all of them.

Circo is Italian. They also have Le Cirque at the Bellagio. amazing French. That hotel has the best food in all of vegas. There is a Nobu also at the Hard Rock hotel. basically when I went to Vegas I ate at all the good NYC restaurants bc it was easier to get a reservation there than here.
O is sick. i just couldnt imagine how they got al that water there. gee-too bad no more celine :)

I love the kettlebell idea! So, because this is a wonderful procrastination tool with regards to real work, I made another version (stealing the kettlebell because it's awesome):

6:14 as RX'd
PR by over 1 minute
Sub 6 easily next time
Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 14, 2008 7:07 PM
Wow that's impressive Allison, is that with 95#?. I couldn't get to the box today. So, done at a Globogym, lost at least 40 seconds each way going between the Pull-up bar and the weighted bar.
Time 10:02, used 65# bar for Thrusters, all Pull-ups chest to bar ( as I still can't kip). Blah, would have been faster at the box. My elbows are in pain.

5:19 PR by 40 seconds... Sub- 5:00 mins will be mine by the end of the year. Off for another night in the iron lung.

Wow Brett Amazing!! Great job. Wish I was there to see it. Ill give Fran a shot tomorrow.
Posted by: Kevin at February 14, 2008 8:58 PM
5:47 PR I believe
subbed 45lbs and jumping pullups. Shoulders are wrecked today.
Awesome work Coach P and Keith; it's great to see the big kids in action.
And Sam was totally inspiring - I wanna be like you.

Great work Brett and Justin!
Posted by: Ewen at February 14, 2008 9:22 PM
Joseph_b: 65# is RX'd for women and that's what used.
I'm going to get my time down two more minutes and start using more weight.
Annie Hawkins did Fran today in 3:something with 75#!
That's rock star status. I really think once you're in the three minute club the weight should go up.
21 Thrusters unbroken. I want everything unbroken. I think I can at least cut the breaks I took tonight in half next time. I was huffing and puffing WAY too long. I'm not going to lie...I wanted sub 6. Next time.

rob 2 mintues off ur time-that is amazing! congrats!
Posted by: michelle at February 14, 2008 11:14 PM
I didnt have to buy her chocolate. Didn't have to buy her flowers. I didn't have to take her out to dinner. And after only 7:18 of work, she put out. That's a PR by 2 minutes! My game is improving with this lady.
Congrats to all the warriors that gave it all to get some today. Happy Victory Day.
I'm spent. Going to smoke a cigarette now.
Posted by: Jack Bauer at February 14, 2008 11:31 PM
greg-u deserve every inch of those cocktail arms. but watch out-my cocktail back is catching up..
perhaps moon and sam can designate a cocktail area of their physiques in time for the cert.
but no smoking greg!
Posted by: michelle at February 14, 2008 11:53 PM
I did Fran from behind... behind the neck that is. :)
21 15 9
95# Thrusters from behind the neck.
Pullups
5:15
As the behind the neck position is easier I wanted to see if it would drive down my time. This was 28 seconds faster than my fastest Fran time so the answer is yes. It is exactly the same about of work but since I went faster it was more intense.
I've been contemplating strategies to bring my score down and this is one way.
Posted by: Tyler Durden at February 15, 2008 12:21 AM
I may trying hitting Fran from behind next time to switch it up. One position gets boring after awhile-seeing how we are going to be spending more time in the future, I should give her something new to look forward to. :-)
Thanks for the advice, Keith.

Keith,
since the movement isn't exactly the same, wouldn't it be fair to say that the work isn't exactly the same either, regardless of speed?
