You should know better.

Have you ever read a really stupid warning label and thought what idiot actually was dumb enough to do the thing that this label is warning me against? So perhaps you can imagine how stupid I feel having to write this to all of you that should be smart enough to know better. PLEASE DO NOT SPIT ON THE FLOOR OF THE GYM!!! Imagine my shock when I had to chastise someone for spitting on the floor of the gym...twice! The person in question said in his defense that nobody had told him that we had a rule against it. To me it is obvious that this sort of behavior is unacceptable. I hope it is now obvious to all of you too. If you have to spit use the barf bags or spit in the trash or go to the bathroom. Spitting on our floor is behavior worthy of expulsion from the gym. Seriously, I will not tolerate this and neither should you. This is your one and ONLY warning. On a similar note, please pick up used tape and bandaids and other stuff that I don't want to touch. Thank you.

...Yes, the floor was mopped after the spitting incident.

who spit in the gym????

hahaahha

sorry. it's not funny

no really... who did it?

Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 27, 2008 11:55 PM

Erica - BUSTED!!! :)

Seriously, use the bags. The bags are awesome. The bags mean you can subtly spit whenever you want and nobody gets grossed out. You can also go #1, #2 or #3 w/o hogging the bathroom.

Posted by: Moon at February 27, 2008 11:59 PM

No she didn't!! hahah really?!?! I don't believe it Moon. But if it's true that's pretty funny.

Girl you're just not having an easy time at the Box these days are you?

hahah... sorry it's not funny

P.S.... Moon, what's # 3?

Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 28, 2008 12:08 AM

Oh...wow...What the...7 rounds? So Hari, is seven the new 5?

OPT killed it in that video-monster!

Posted by: Jack Bauer at February 28, 2008 12:10 AM

Greg do u want to split up the rounds-say you do 4 and i will do 3-my 3 will take longer than your 4 anyway- :)

I think it will be very efficient.

and its so nice to share with friends.

amd moon and sam please bring your scripts for the read through

Posted by: michelle at February 28, 2008 12:48 AM

Erica didn't spit on the floor.
Not to drop dimes but I think i saw moon spit in the chalk bucket. ewwww gross, cuz everyone totally uses the chalk bucket.
j/k

Posted by: juan g. at February 28, 2008 1:16 AM

I did this. It won't happen again.

Posted by: greg g. at February 28, 2008 6:19 AM

and I realized shortly after that yes, I should know better.

Posted by: greg g. at February 28, 2008 6:22 AM

Let me just warn Moon and all of you in advance that going #1, #2 or #3(?) on the floor of the gym is also completely unacceptable.

Posted by: Tyler Durden at February 28, 2008 7:56 AM

I think #3 is what is coming out of my nose the past 3 days. Someone needs to do my 7 rounds as I can barely lift my head off my pillow, yet I decide to come to work today. That was a big mistake

Posted by: Justin at February 28, 2008 8:17 AM

Before this gets going too far...
A2 - Erica did not spit on the floor. That was a joke 'cause I think she would be least likely to do so and thus it sounded the most incredulous and therefore would be funny.

Tyler - I solemnly swear to use a bag to contain the release of any liquids - excepting sweat - and semi/solids. If all others agree to do the same, the floor may be clean enough to eat off of, which should make the "Picnic At The Box" party idea much more acceptable.

Juan - That wasn't spit.

Posted by: Moon at February 28, 2008 8:38 AM

greg g. - It happened and now we all know better. However if your Box nickname becomes "Loogie"...
(Certainly Jack Bauer would be in favor of such a happenstance - his PR camp has gotta be #2ing a brick over how the headline version of this incident reads.)

Posted by: Moon at February 28, 2008 9:32 AM

Michelle, I am so onboard with that idea of splitting this up 4-3. I say make Gideon do one round and we could have an awesome time! The boy is strong.

Tyler #3 is vomit, and as a former Prince of Puke I always made it to the bucket. Spitting on the floor is unacceptable. However, bleeding on the bars is A-okay. :-)

On a serious note: Thanks Keith for posting those pics. These athletes were top competitors and didn't need steriods to be the bad mother-shutyomouth-that they were. And they competed at at time when working out was the least of their problems.

You know what I don't like? When people wipe their boogies all over the bathroom walls. Or on the underside of tables for that matter.

JuanGolia--great vids. Are you subtly suggesting we add some Pop-n-Lock classes to the CFNYC schedule?

Posted by: Allison Bojarski at February 28, 2008 11:44 AM

The photo from the NY Times article looks like it was taken from the Chelsea Piers Bluestreak facility where I've been doing my hockey training. As you can probably tell from the subject's childlike arms, the strength training component there isn't quite as effective as what we have going on at the Box.

And while we're on the subject, I have issue with the title of the article, "Does Weight Lifting Make a Better Athlete?" Here it assumes that "athlete" only refers to endurance athletes.

This is similar to my problem with the Metro Sports magazine, which seems to be mostly about running and cycling along with some coverage of swimming, skiing and climbing (mostly in advertisements). There's practically nothing about about resistance training or team sports or any other kind of sport where you can score a point.

Btw, I didn't hit "Post" twice earlier.

Not so funny video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wFagaRq1U4

It's from last Saturday's "Back on board" workout. It's longish (7') and there's tons of crap happening all at once (very crowded that day, limited space to take shots), but most people present will be able to catch a glimpse of themselves doing most exercises.

In particular, there's some decent rowing footage in there that we can take a look at sometime at the Box for those of you who are interested.

Posted by: Ewen at February 28, 2008 11:53 AM

:) i am.
or at least change up the music selection.

Posted by: juan g. at February 28, 2008 12:03 PM

My 2 cents on the NYT article

It's hard to believe an Olympic hopeful rower is just now starting to lift weights. Any serious rowing training program I've come across involves "some" resistance work, even if it's only high rep circuit training. Rowing is an endurance sport, but with a substantial strength component.

While we're on the funny-video tip, here's my suggestion for your viewing pleasure:

Comment #18 in the comments section of NY Times article makes reference to the CF HQ site.

Posted by: Jeff at February 28, 2008 12:41 PM

Ewen (and all) - I dropped off a small solid-state video camera to do short clips for just such performance analysis and review. It plays back very well on either the laptop or the television (cable is on desk). Check with the instructors on details on when/how to use it to assist rowing, lifting or general form instruction.

Also, if anyone is feeling frosty and is going to bust out some PRs, someone should capture that so we can show off what we're doing here. It should be noted that the camera can only capture 30 minutes at a time. Please adjust your Murph pace accordingly.

A2-did we miss webisode 3 or do we have to rent it?

Posted by: michelle at February 28, 2008 1:29 PM

So who's doing the East Coast CF Challenge?

http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=26275

The cutoff date for early registration ($75) is MArch 31st. I'm not sure if there's anyone interested but if so then you should probably start getting something together.

I'm not sure if I'll be going, but I'll have a better idea in a few weeks

Posted by: Robzilla at February 28, 2008 2:01 PM

Michelle: That is part 3. I guess it's a mistake. The editor of the videos is the guy who is getting an Ass Whoopin from Jolie... Which is why I'm not surprised that there's a close up of my ass.

Robzilla: I'm going. I have to. I think I'm going to ride up with jrocks crew. They're stopping in Battery Park for a workout on the way up too.

Posted by: AllisonNYC at February 28, 2008 2:07 PM

I'm interested in the East Coast Challenge (not 100% sure or signed up yet).

The more the merrier, of course.

Posted by: Ewen at February 28, 2008 2:12 PM

I haven't been to the Box since last week, so I'm def coming through today. This WOD look's awsome, but that's a lot of rounds. Is it just me, or are the WOD's increasing in Volume by an insane amount?

gene; how much are they?? sounds like fun

7 rounds for time:
10 SDHP 95lbs.
10 ring dips

10:56 as rx'd

SDHP's were controlled touch and go reps cuz the people down stairs. Thanks Court! It worked out much better as it allowed me to focus on proper form and technique and make sure they were all quality reps. Doing it this way prevented injury and forced me to concentrate much harder as opposed to flailing away and pulling the weight up by any means necessary trying to be a "time ho".

It's actually Saturday, Mar 1 @ 11:30 AM. I'm a member of an art org so they're 4 bucks a piece. But if you want them, you HAVE TO show and pick them up, otherwise they'll charge me like 15 bucks per penalty fee.

Rehab Remix.
First worked with Keith to help figure out exactly how retarded I am when it comes to swings/jerks. Got some tips on how to fix the shoulder issues to get me back on the road to symmetrical health. Then decided to take a stab at a reduced form of the WOD.

42# SDHP
Pushups on those floor jack things, changing the width each set from wide to regular to narrow.
Time was in upper 11 min range.
