Lynne's Pretty Sister
As there is no rest for the weary, even when it's a "rest day" on HQ's site, I've asked the elusive Mr. Durden to create a new WOD for tomorrow. He came up with something pretty ingenious, in my humble opinion:
Thursday 070628
"Lynne's Pretty Sister"
* Bodyweight deadlift (i.e., same amount on the bar as you weigh--we've got a scale, don't make us force you to get on it!)
* Ring dips (subbing ring pushups for those who cannot do ring dips, and subbing pushups for those who cannot do ring pushups)
5 rounds for max reps (no clock running, just have to get it done within the hour timeframe of the class)
Post all reps to comments.

In case you're wondering about the name of the WOD, it's a riff off of the "Lynne" WOD (http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#WOD0), which is max reps of bodyweight bench press and max reps of pull-ups, for 5 rounds.

Went yesterday for a DEXA scan to measure bodyfat percentage definitively. Now I have to wait two weeks for the results.

Our very own Miss Avery is in the paper of record today (both in a photo and quoted):

sarena what is a dexa scan and why does one need to know his/her body fat %? is it for competitions?

***********SPLISH SPLASH***********
Who's up for a group trip to a waterpark? I'll go any day except Saturday or Sunday because the lines will be way too long. If you think I smile a lot at the gym you should see me going down a water slide. Pure joy!
Let me know people.. It will be a blast
Splish Splash is Exit 72 off the LIE about an hour from the city.

Tabata This...
I dugg up this article on MSN about getting your "Best Body in one Hour". There are a lot of similarities to the crossfit program, but I noticed one section in particular:
*Accelerate Fat Loss
The strategy: Squeeze in a fat-burning cardio session to reveal rock-hard muscle.
The investment: 4 minutes
The drill: You're no doubt familiar with interval training, in which you run hard, rest, and then repeat. That burns fat, for sure. But here's another option. Perform squats, chinups, or pushups for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat, alternating for 4 minutes. This technique boosts your metabolism and your strength. What's more, Japanese researchers found that it provides the same cardiovascular benefits as a 30-minute bike ride.*
