Fabulous Fifteens

Thursday 070614

Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
15 Double-unders
15 Burpees
15 Box Jump
15 ft Rope climb, 1 ascent

Post rounds and fractions of rounds completed to comments.

What's the best substitute for rope climbing?

Towel pullups is the consensus best substitute. For more realism, alternate one hand high, one hand low on the towel. Some folks do towel pulldowns, as well. Standard rope length is 15', and standard substitution is 15 towel pulls.

UPDATE: Jacinto will be filling in for Court at the 12:30 class. So class is on!

Like I was asking under "Elizabeth", what's the jumping situation at the Box?

And should we bring our own towels? :o)

Posted by: Ewen at June 13, 2007 10:13 PM

Yes, please BYOT! I only have a couple.

Hi a 'teacher' question; I can't make the 6 pm on-ramp but really want to try this WOD. Do I have permission (as per the schedule notes) to come to the WOD class instead? Outside of rope climb (which I've never done) I can handle the rest.

Posted by: Michael at June 13, 2007 11:17 PM

I'll bring in some of the towels I've stolen over the years from previous big-box gyms I used to work out at...

Posted by: Allison at June 13, 2007 11:18 PM

Michael,

Come in to whichever class you want for this WOD.

Posted by: Tyler Durden at June 14, 2007 6:05 AM

Hi Rob,
Are you by any chance going climbing at 6:30? I'm trying to orchestrate an early escape from work today -- still in the planning phases though...

Posted by: Yoon at June 14, 2007 7:57 AM

Hey Yoon,

I'll be there tonight at 630. If you need directons you can look go to http://www.cityclimbersclub.com/

I was planning on going tonight anyway so if you can't make it then no worries.

This workout was yet another case of, "wow that was harder that I thought it would be." Got 3 complete rounds and was 10 pull-ups shy of completing a 4th round. Used a light band to help with the towel pull-ups and still my grip was failing me. Not fun. (Also, I did the 45 high-knee jumps that served as a sub for the prescribed 15 double-unders.)

I have a friend in from Hong Kong that I am going to TORTURE with today's wod. He's better at jiu-jitsu than me so I love making him suffer in whichever ways I can. You guys will be getting pictures of our ugly faces making local toddlers cry cause we stole their playground.

Posted by: Jamal at June 14, 2007 3:13 PM

Rob,
I'm making my escape around 6:00. Should be at the climbing gym by 7:00. Do I need to bring anything besides shorts, tshirt, shoes, and payment?

Thanks,
Yoon

Nice video Dammit.

Posted by: dan at June 14, 2007 4:52 PM

3 rounds, double-unders and a handful of box jumps.

Towel pull-ups were horrible, just horrible I tell you.

Posted by: Ewen at June 14, 2007 5:54 PM

Keith that monk is insane!!

Dammit-hilarious!

Posted by: sarena at June 14, 2007 7:41 PM

4 Rounds + finished double-unders of 5th.

I miss Cindy. I miss Elizabeth.

Seriously, for sheer actual-hard/perceived-hard-when-read-on-site ratio this has to take the cake.

Only a teensy asterisk for this one, I was expecting jumping towl pull-ups and I think I only jumped a total of 5-8 out of the 60.

Kudos this time to the two first time muscle-uppers, I'm hoping to follow-soon. Oh and to Dammit (I think it was Dammit damnit) who tore through the double-unders something fierce.

Posted by: michael at June 14, 2007 7:51 PM

Brutal Brutal Brutal workout, you guys in the first heat were amazing! Oh by the way burpies suck!

Posted by: alex at June 14, 2007 8:02 PM

yeah, that one sucked. five rounds.

Posted by: dammit at June 14, 2007 8:05 PM

3 rounds and box jumps

Posted by: juan g. at June 14, 2007 8:34 PM

Yeah I saw Jeff and Sean both get first-time muscle-ups post-WOD. The energy at the box tonight was amazing. My new client was blown away by all of you guys--great work!

P.S.: tomorrow's WOD is already up on the main site: 7 x 3 overhead squats. Should be interesting to say the least...

Posted by: Allison at June 14, 2007 9:05 PM

Monk Hai is amazing!!
So is human tetris. Great vid dammit. I love those Japanese game shows.

4 rounds + 15 DU+ 15 BJ+ 15 burpees+ 8 rope pullups

My Double unders sucked today. So close to 5 rounds. Rope pullups are a bitch but fun nevertheless.
Great work everyone!!

Posted by: Kevin at June 14, 2007 9:29 PM

Mr. Durden, the monk is badass, but he did not invent human Tetris. Let's pack our bags for Japan first.

Just 10 towel pullups short of 4 rounds. It's been a while since I've had such a psychological breakdown during a WOD, but being in a heat with the 2 Dans, Juan, Dammit and Kevin kept me going when I thought I was going to add an impromptu rep of cookie toss to the workout. That was a pretty manly heat. Speaking of manly heat, it was murderously stuffy up there.

In response to the accolades for my quasi-muscle-up, I'd like to thank all the little people who I had to boost off of to get up there: all the xfit trainers, Dammit for the inspiration, Kevin for the last minute pointers and Sean for completing his muscle-up and giving me the impetus to not-be-a-pussy.

Posted by: Jeff at June 14, 2007 10:06 PM

One other thing: a huge thanks again to Jacinto for subbing in today. I hope you figure out how to use the internet so that you can read this.

Posted by: Jeff at June 14, 2007 10:08 PM

Sounds like it was a good day today. My stitches are starting to get really itchy. I'm also ansy and shaking my leg all day without any exercise in the am.

Posted by: Brett_nyc at June 14, 2007 10:27 PM

Hang in there, Brett. Hypertrophy-specific training (http://www.hypertrophy-specific.com/hst_notes.html) dictates that a (strategically placed) week-long period of deconditioning is beneficial and necessary. You know, if you believe that sort of nonsense.
