I'm going to try to go to the 6 or 7PM class for this. Hopefully it won't be too packed.

Posted by: Kevin at May 25, 2007 8:09 AM

Yay heavy deadlifts! I'll be doing the lunchtime class, and hopefully going over 200 pounds by the end of the sets.

Posted by: Allison at May 25, 2007 9:02 AM

Cindy last night: I thought I did nearly 17+ rounds, but I think I did 16 rounds + 5 pulls and 5 push ups. Miscounted by 1. Squats for volume kill me, my left hip is sooooo tight and it is unfortunately quite painful. I need to yoga, or something.
Well done everybody, saw some great scores.

Posted by: Paul S at May 25, 2007 9:54 AM

Ack. My knees are feeling pretty rough after Mary - 80 pistols apparently exceeds my current limit. This should be 'interesting'.

Posted by: josh at May 25, 2007 10:03 AM

Not feeling very ME this morning. PR still 395lbs

225x5

315x2

Good luck Allison. You can do it!

This will be my first time doing heavy deadlifts.. I'm in a good mood today and looking forward to lifting serious weight!

Paul- Avery and I didn't make it to yoga in time last night so we're going to try again tonight after the 6pm class. Feel free to join. :)
You too JOSH. Sweating your balls off in a hot room is a much healthier way to dehydrate yourself than drinking your pain away. C'mon..

Posted by: A2 at May 25, 2007 11:14 AM

Au contraire, A2. Through years of heavy drinking, I've begun to slowly pickle myself, an approach that should extend my life indefinitely.

Men of Crossfit NYC 2007
Placement so far has been totally random. Adam is Mr.January and Josh is Mr.April.
Need pictures for November and December ;)

This would be a great was to raise money for some showers... think about it boys

Posted by: A2 at May 25, 2007 1:09 PM

I totally endorse this idea. Especially if we can all be wearing old-school Snidely Whiplash mustaches, and posing in various circus lift (e.g., two-handed anyhow) positions. Leopard skin bikinis would be a nice touch.

Who's in?

Posted by: josh at May 25, 2007 1:54 PM

In... so long as there is an accompanying "Ladies of Crossfit NYC 2007"

Posted by: dan at May 25, 2007 2:05 PM

The horror... the horror.

Ok, you asked for it. Here's february http://picasaweb.google.com/slojams/MenOfCrossfit

Posted by: Jamal at May 25, 2007 2:15 PM

AHHHH! Oh my god Jamal! Adam had offically been bumped- We have a new Mr.January!!

"This would be a great was to raise money for some showers... think about it boys"

Boys and showers, you say? How far are we willing to go to outsell these French pro rugbymen?

I'm in only if we're mustachioed. :-{

Posted by: Ewen at May 25, 2007 2:22 PM

I will be atttending 6 or 7 pm class, even though I'm still feeling it from Cindy.

A2 - There are no yoga classes anywhere it seems in the city after 6 pm.

My vote is that we attend the 2 pm class on Saturday at the UES location at 173 E 83rd street, corner of 3rd avenue (www.bikramyoganyc.com). Anyone who is interested please come! It'll be my first time doing Bikram. There are a few other times at the other locations, however this would give everyone the chance to do the KB class if they want and get up there in a somewhat leisurely fashion.

See you at class?

245, 265, 285, 295, 295, 295, 295

I was so sore from Cindy that I could barely do 5 pullups during the warmup. Just seemed like there was an excessive amount of gravity in the box today.

Posted by: Hari at May 25, 2007 2:33 PM

there is a class at 7:30 on 8thAve and 48thSt. I'll be at the box at 6 and I'm rushing out as soon as I'm finished deadlifting.
Can you make it Avery?

Posted by: A2 at May 25, 2007 2:50 PM

What studio are you looking at?

Posted by: avery at May 25, 2007 3:05 PM

Midtown
I called to make sure the schedule was up to date. I got a real person on the phone and he said there is a class at 730

Posted by: A2 at May 25, 2007 3:09 PM

Oh, I see which one...I don't think I am going to rush over there...lifting usually takes longer (especially if there is a full class), so I'll probably just do the 7 pm class, and plan a weekend bikram class.

Posted by: avery at May 25, 2007 3:11 PM

A2: I'm excited to hear your info was not obtained from a "fake" person :) See you at 6pm.

Jamal: two words: OH MY

Posted by: dan at May 25, 2007 3:23 PM

Maybe Jamal gets his own calendar.

Posted by: Jeff at May 25, 2007 3:53 PM

I'm sure A2 is equally pleased that her written comments are being heard.

Posted by: Hari at May 25, 2007 4:10 PM

Hha thanks a lot Hari you're totally right. All my girlfriends are waiting for their copies of Men of XXXFit 2007!
I convinced a few guys to buy them for me. One said he'll take 10 for 150$ each!
My mom thinks this is a great idea. I showed her the G version I started on the myspace page and now she wants to do crossfit at the box.
I know a great photographer... her name is Allison and she can deadlift 200lbs

Posted by: A2 at May 25, 2007 4:19 PM

So didnt wake up and make it to the box so decided to do my deads at the "other" gym... After averting my eyes from all the bad form (somebody doing what can only be described as a sumo half-squat press jerk???) I went ahead and worked on my deadlifts. Something is seriously screwed up with my back lately so after trying to go heavy and not just happening today, I decided to work on my form. Finished with 5X5 presses (first 3 at 95lbs and last 2 sets at 135lbs.) and some front squat work since Keith informed me how awful my front squats were the other night while doing the bear.

And what the hell, I'm down for a calendar but just put me in the back because I might cause sales to drop.

A2: thanks for creating the MySpace page, and I wholeheartedly second the motion for a Men of XXXFit Calendar. We could make SO MUCH money for the Box that way. I'd be happy to play photographer, as long as Moon lets me borrow his awesome SLR.

Jamal: you rule. Can we shoot the whole calendar on that yacht?

And now getting back to the original topic of this thread: the heavy deadlifts. Unfortunately I managed to tweak my back on the warm-up DLs so I had to scale back my lifts. Just went 5 rounds instead of 7, and stopped at 201#. So now that's my new PR, by a whopping 1 pound. It was frustrating to have to stop, but I think it was the prudent decision. All the guys who were at the lunch time class with me did great, especially Mr. Durden, who no longer has to be ashamed of being a novice... :)

Posted by: Allison at May 25, 2007 5:41 PM

All of u at the lunchtime class did awesome.
Hari --you're way over 2x bodyweight.
Allison--201# f-ing pounds!!
Dammit--what was it like way over 300???
Rob-1.5X bodyweight I think???
Keith--wow 335#
And I am sorry about forgetting your name--but the new guy--you rock!! Your first xfit WOD--welcome and enjoy the ride!!

I totally respect all of u guys! It was really amazing to watch u work hard

Hey checked the schedule, if anyone is up for a Bikram class on Sunday. There is a really cool teacher at Flatiron SUnday at 1PM. I am game if anyone wants to join me.

Posted by: sarena at May 25, 2007 6:42 PM

My second Deadlift, first with instruction (thanks Cort!)

BW: 160

Though the last one was 'ugly' at least on the way down (thanks Cort!)

Flexibility is still the limiting factor in all my exercises, working hard on it at home and looking to really skyrocket by Labor Day.

Tomorrow: Aerobox and Aeroimpact, two hours of that should be great fun for someone recuperating from Cindy and Deadlifts. For anyone who hasn't checked Aerospace out, *awesome* and challenging 'boxing' gym, come on down :)

Posted by: Michael at May 25, 2007 8:37 PM

Oh Josh, yes you were right when I walked in, I *did* in fact post the mary-kudo's post. I must have been in a post-Cindy-pre-deadlift fog. Of course I interspersed that with a 2 am stay at the wine bar so...

Posted by: Michael at May 25, 2007 9:21 PM

Dropped in around 7:30 after some more klutztastic soccer that left a nice gash in my left palm.

Didn't catch your name, but way to go guy-who-PRed-despite-being-afraid-to-hurt-your-back. Lesson learned: once you're half-way up (and your form is good), don't stop!

225x3-315-405 (just checking in on my PR, it's doing fine)
