"Mugging Gone Bad" in Central Park
Thanks to everyone who made it out to today's Central Park Memorial Day workout, which included the park classic "Mugging Gone Bad" (an adaptation of "Fight Gone Bad," natch), tabata squats, and sprints, as well as tumbling and handstand practice (and a well-earned brunch afterwards). Juan G. took many photos, which you can find here (password: crossfit), and here are a few of my favorites:

So if you haven't already myspaced us, do so now. (Thanks again to Allison2 for setting up the page in the first place.)

I can't believe how much I would have rather done Mugging Gone Bad in the Park than wake up at 6:30 am for a soccer tournament in Crown Heights that finally got started at noon, with half my team not showing up and the other half wussing out and leaving before the last game.
I felt like carving 'Don't be a pussy!' on their backs with my cleats.
Crossfitters rule.

Looks like it was a great time!
Big ups to those members of the CrossFit Karaoke Team who rallied from closing Sing-Sing last night to making it to the park today!

Inspired by the video I decided to try the infamous kettlehell workout. Um....who was the sadist who came up with that? I finished it, but it was u-g-l-y and I forgot to start my stop watch. Then I did a 6k row. I sometimes wonder if we are sane.

Allison & Josh- I don't know how you two got up and out this morning. I decided it was best to lay around and nap with my baby Boo most of the day before taking him to the park.
Inspired by the nice people who called to tell me I'm lazy and I suck - I punished myself by doing 2 rounds of 30 burpees in front of my house. My 15 year old neighbor and his friends volunteered to count for me.
I want a brownie..

Since yesterday's park excursion went so well, I decided to take the gang out to Bryant Park this morning for some sprints and kettlebell juggling.

7 rounds + 4 pullups in 20 minutes
Weighted pullups with 53lb kettlebell on thick bar

Good news. Saw my doc today and she cleared me to climb - easy! No presses, no sumo, no pullups. But I can deadlift. She says it takes a true 6 months to recover from a CV join sprain. So I'm half way there. But my relief is that I haven't lost my summer. No 5.10, but 5.7 ain't bad.
Best, Kim

PS: I like this sports medicine doc. Because she's a DO rather than an orthopod she doesn't believe surgery is the answer to everything. Lastly, she takes insurance unlike my other DO who was so good he could afford to be out of everyone's network.

Tonight's 6pm class, since it's too crowded to sprint in Bryant Park at this hour:
AMRAP 12 min.:
9 deadlifts at your choice of weight (then clean the bar, so you can do...)
12 thrusters
15 burpee box jumps
Posted by: Allison at May 29, 2007 6:20 PM
Great Kim--maybe we'll see you in class soon. Had a great workout today
1 min work each exercise then rest 1 min/repeat 3x:
45#thrusters
16kg KB swings
I lost count, am sure Keith wrote it down in his book though.
Then I did:
10 95# DL
10 pushups
Repeat 5x: 6:17
Boy did I bitch and complain but I sure felt euphoric later!
